Principal's Welcome
I am very pleased to welcome you to Granville Academy’s website and hope you find it informative. You will be able to read about the underpinning values and ethos that make Granville Academy a fantastic choice for families in our local community.
In developing our students on their pathway to excellence, we are guided by our simple values statement 'Work hard, Be kind, Choose Wisely'. We believe that these values are both central to success within education, but also key values that allow us to be successful in life. We explicitly teach and promote these values, expecting our students within our academy to show acts of kindness, gratitude and self-discipline within lessons, within social time and within their wider community. We support this by upholding the highest of expectations within a warm, strict culture.
Students at Granville Academy experience a broad, balanced and engaging curriculum that provides them with the necessary building blocks of knowledge, skills and understanding enabling them to be successful in their GCSE examinations and beyond. The curriculum is delivered by a team of highly skilled specialist subject teachers who are committed to ensuring all students achieve their full potential.
This year, we celebrate another year of results which remain above last year's national standards, our core subjects are again strong. We have also been recognised for our strong attainment for disadvantaged students who have secured outcomes significantly above other students of similar backgrounds across the country. On average they have achieved a grade 4 at our academy and this is not only an improvement on last year but well above national standards. It is this continued energy and drive that provides the foundations for our students to thrive, to be successful and allows us to continue to build upon our strong results of 2024. Maths results continue to be a key strength of our academy and results remain very strong, significantly above national average, with 57% achieving 5+ and 25.9% at grade 7+. English continue to build upon their success of 2024 and excelled, achieving 77% 4+ and a stunning 24% at 7+. This continued growth is testament to the clear direction and ambition we have within our academy to constantly improve and be “the best we can be” in everything we do and it is fantastic to see that this trend is echoed across subjects through the academy. Notable subjects were Drama (90% at 9-5) and DT (72% at 9-4). Science remains very strong: 64% of Combined Science students attained 9-4, and we are also very impressed with our discrete Science results, such as a phenomenal 82% achieving grades 9-7 in Physics.
Students with additional needs are well-supported and achieve well. Students are supported by our specialist SENDCO, two assistant SENCOs and their team of dedicated staff. Regular training on how best to support and utilise adaptive teaching strategies, including children with additional needs, ensures all students can access their learning.
Students are encouraged to contribute to wider school life. We offer an extensive range of enrichment activities and opportunities including regular school trips and educational visits.
All students at Granville Academy are well-supported by our highly skilled team of non-teaching Heads of Year, Form teachers and our dedicated safeguarding team. We want all students to have a sense of belonging and feel like they are known, cared for and part of the ‘The Granville Family’.
Staff and students are proud of our highly equipped Science, Technology and Physical Education building. Students are proud of the new ICT facilities; our new library, our recently refurbished gymnasium and we have recently invested significantly in our exterior environment which we know will enhance our provision. We continue to invest to ensure our students and local community have the facilities and learning environment they deserve which will further support our progress and journey towards excellence.
Parents, carers and the community are important to us. We are open about our vision because we want a shared understanding about how success can be achieved together. We want you to support our ethos. We want to communicate the standards and expectations as one voice. We do this together, because we have a shared purpose in securing the best for our students and maximising their potential. We ask them every day to be the “best version of themselves” and stress the importance of this, so that they leave us with high standards, continued ambition and a desire to pursue challenging, fulfilling careers that bring both success and happiness. We expect parents/carers to support us in upholding our high standards and expectations. We are a family with one shared goal and in partnership, we provide the best for our students to be successful.
We commit to this because it is right, and because we care.
This is all easy to say. Any school can talk about wanting its students to be the best they can be. It’s what happens that matters. So, once you have read through this website, come and visit. It’s the best way to feel what Granville Academy is all about. We would urge any prospective parents or carers to come and see us in action and experience what we have to offer first hand. If you would like to do this, please contact the academy Reception on 01283 216765 and we will be happy to arrange a tour of the academy.
We look forward to meeting you.
Kind regards,
Mrs Lowe
Acting Principal
